poster

For writing we were making a poster That we are going to sell. We made a poster about bean bags. Here is some key words what you can do on a bean bag. You can relax on it, dive in to it and you can read books sitting on a bean bag.

First we got key words to describe the photos what it looks like. Next we got photo that links to the key words.

Faulty reasoning

 For reading we were doing a faulty reasoning. We had to put examples and answers in the 5 boxes that were ;

Illogical / simplified  Assumption means that is Providing evidence that does not directly support the claim (Hint: There are probably other influences / factors).

Circular reasoning means Supporting a claim with the same claim Hint: Look for synonyms!)

Over-generalization means Making a global statement when there are likely exceptions. (Hint: everybody, nobody, always

Biased argument means making a claim that is influenced by your own personal feelings or experience

Contradiction means Providing evidence that goes against the original argument.

The first activity is putting the right text quote and the reasoning to the right faulty reasons.

Next activity we did was we had to put the right 5 faulty reason in the right reason.

Lastly we had to do the faulty reasoning by our self. We had to read the book and find the right reason and put them in the 5 boxes that you think was right.

Fractions of sets

A fraction of a set is a whole group divided equally into smaller groups.

Fractions is one whole thing divided into equal pieces.

There is a denominator and a numerator. The denominator shows the fraction size and the numerator shows how many pieces are there.

An example of 2/6 is the denominator shows the fractions size that is 6. The numerator shows how many pieces there are that is 2

Maori

For Maori we were doing a translating task. Our task was to translate the Maori words into the English words. There was 20 Maori towns that we had to translate. There were questions as well like He aha te rā āpōpō? That was, what is the date tomorrow?

Friday 4 December 2020

fractions of sets

A fraction is one whole thing cut or divided into equal pieces.

A fraction of a set is a whole group divided equally into smaller groups.

There is a denominator and a numerator. The denominator show the fraction size and the numerator shows how many pieces are there.

An example is 1/4. The size is 4 so the fraction is quarters .There is 1 piece so the fraction is 1 quarter.

LI: to define “fraction”.

Emergency shelter

We designed an emergency shelter. An emergency shelter is a place that keeps people safe from natural disasters.

First, we drew up our 3D net. A 3D net is something that can be folded into a 3D shape. Our shape was a cube. We needed to draw six 15 cm squares.

Next, we transferred the 3D net into card by measuring the length and width. Once we finished we started cutting it out and folding it into a cube.

Lastly, we started to build our model which was supposed to look like the card. We used cardboard to build the model because it’s strong enough to hold the shelter up.

Touch Rugby game

Today for kiwi sport we played a game of touch rugby.

First we practiced doing the passing drill. To practiced the passing drill is there is people in a line and the person with ball passe the ball down the line.

We played a game of touch so we can do the two man settle and the three man settle and passing the ball.

I really like playing touch rugby but I need to practiced passing the ball better.

Reading

For reading we were doing the qar task. Qar stands for, question, answer, and relationship.

I read a book that was called change our school uniform. We had to put the right questions in the right box.

There were 4 boxes that were, right there that means you can point to the answer. Think and search means you need to find the answer in places.

Author and you means the answer is not in the text and you have to use your own knowledge and have to come up with the answer.

On my own means the answer is also not in the text. You can also come up with the answer if you haven't read the text. You have to come up with your own knowledge and think to come up with the answer.

LI. To identify the main ideas in the text.

Maori

This week I watched a kapa haka group perform.

First, the kapa haka group performed their entrance ceremony by using various tools. They also informed me about the weapons, tools, and their purposes. The first training item was the Poi which works on the flexibility and dexterity of the wrists and arms. The second training item was the ti rakau which was also for the dexterity in the arms. The last item, which was an actual weapon, was called a taiaha. The taiaha is meant to represent the human body, and it can be used for offense and defense

Next, I watched the second part of their performance. At the end of their performance they performed a haka. The haka is traditionally used to scare opponents before certain events. Our school's kapa haka group also responded with a haka.

Lastly, I played Matau & Maui. Matau & Maui worked on my reaction and listening skills. Our objective was to not drop the rakau on the floor.

I found their performance fun and educational because I gained a deeper understanding of Maori culture.

LI: To learn and experience kapa haka performance

Touch rugby

Today I played a game of touch.

First we practice doing a two man settle and a three man settles. We practice doing the two man settle and the three man settle so we can use that skill.

Next we played a game of touch. when we play the game of touch we learn how to use the two man settle and the three man settle.

I did good doing the three man settle with my partner Dayton and Ayden but we need more practice passing the ball.

Shelters materials

There are different types of shelters that have different materials that can stand against natural disasters. Materials that could go through storms are materials like concrete, wool and steel frames.

Concrete can be used for the outside layer because water can’t go through the concrete which is good.

Wool can be used for the middle layer because wool can keep the coldness of wind out of the shelter which makes the shelter warm.

Steel frames can be good to hold up the shelter because steel frames are strong to hold up something and if there’s nothing under the roof it might fall down.

Knowing which materials are good for the right disaster it’s important because an emergency shelter with the right materials can save people's lives.

LI:To prepare material order for construction

Fraction

I learned about fractions.

The fractions we made was quarters and eighths. How we did quarters is we cut the cup in halves but first we had to line it. We had to line the cup and try to make halves. Next, we line it again and cut it until we have quarters.

Lastly, We did our eights. We line the cup and cut it into halves. Next we line it again and cut it into quarters and line it again to get eighths.

Reading

Today were doing 3 task that was called table mat, making connection and synthesis.

First we did our table mat. First we did our prior knowledge. Prior knowledge is something that you already know. Next we did our key words. We needed 6 key words and talk about what key word means. After we did our facts, key questions and question I would ask. For facts we had to find them in the book. How much facts we needed was 4 facts. Next we had to do our key question that was what still happens in the book. Last we did question that I would ask. Question I would ask is writing a question before writing the book.

Our second task we did was making connection. We did text to text, text to self and text to word. Text to text is linking something that the same as the book. Text to self is something in the book that happen to you. Text to word is something that happen to the word.

Last we did our synthesis. We put our prior knowledge in and our facts. Next we had to write 3 things that we learnt.

Fraction

Today we were doing our fractions.

But we drew them into our books.

Here is a example to do two sixths. First you have to have 6 boxes in your maths books and divide them equally. Next you have to shade 2 boxes. After you have to write your sentence like I had 6 pieces of chocolaty bar then I ate two from the chocolaty. And that is how you do 2 6.

L.I To identify fractions.

Fraction

Fractions are one whole thing cut into equal pieces.

A halves is a whole thing cut into 2 equal pieces.

Thirds is a whole thing cut into 3 equal pieces.

A quarter is a whole thing cut into 4 equal pieces.

Here is a slide that shows our fraction.

Persuasive speech

For writing we were doing our persuasive speech. My topic is fighting and my argument is that people shouldn't fight people.

First I had to introduce my self. Then I had to introduce my topic and said my a rhetorical question.

Next I had to say my POV which means point of view and why I believe my argument. Next I said  my reasons and facts about my topic.

Afterwards I said reasons to help support my topic. Afterwards I said my solution and a summary on why graffiti should be stopped.

This task was fun and I liked how I was brave to say my speech.

LI. To create a persuasive speech.

Maori name

This week for Maori the task was to translate names in to English.

First we match the English names next to the Maori names.

Next we translated the Maori words that we dont know.

After we learnt the Maori letters. For example: The letter j & s is the letter h in Maori.

Last we had to see if they were right.

Tuesday 10 November 2020

Synthesis

For reading we did a task. The task we was synthesis.

First we had to do our prior knowledge for the book called water power. The prior knowledge is something that you already know.

Next we had to do our new information. For our information we had to put facts for the book we had. The facts that we needed was 4 facts about the book.

Last we had to do our new understanding. For our new under standing we had to write new things what we learnt about the book.

Shelters

This week for inquiry we were creating our own emergency shelter. An emergency shelter is a place that protects people from natural disasters.

First we looked at different types of shelters that are in different shapes. We had to figure out if they were a good or bad shelter.

Next we thought and discussed what the shape of our shelter would be. My group decided that the shape should be a triangle. We thought this would be a good shelter against strong wind.

Then we created our own shelter on sketch up. This app is used to create 3d models.

After that we discussed which material would do best if this shelter was going to be created in real life. The best material we could think of was Tungsten. Tungsten is a type of metal that is extremely rare to find. It cannot be broken either.

If we could change specific things in our shelter, the things we would change are adding windows to see, another entrance to our shelter and probably taking out the legs and ropes.

We found this task difficult because it was hard trying to design our shelter but it was very fun because we like each other's ideas even though we weren’t able to add those features in.

Kiwi sport

For kiwi sport we learned 2 new skill.

The skills we did was a two man settle and a three man settle.

How we did the two man settle we had one person in the front with the ball and the person at back. How we did is we had to run to the cone and put your right hand up and plant the ball so our teammates would pick the ball up and pass the ball to us.

How we did the three man settle is we had three people. One person in the front with the ball that was a and a person at the back that was b and another one that was c. A had to go to the cone and plant the ball then b had to pick up the ball and pass it to c then c go to the cone and plants the ball.

I enjoy learning the two new skills.

Making connections

LI:To make connections.

For reading we learnt about making connections.

Text to text is linking to another text you have read. For example in the story water power In the story water power it say they try to make electric power. In a comic book Superman has super power.

Text to self is linking something that you have done. For example In the story water power the spillway looked like a giant water slide. At the pool I go on the  water slide.

Text to world Is linking something that the world has done. For example  in the story water power when the rain hard the river floods. In the world sometimes it would rain.

Bex meet milly.

We watched a performance by Duffy theater group about the Coggen. A Coggen is a mythical creature that is a mixture of a cat,dog and a chicken.

Before the show, the actor introduced themselves. Then we sang the Duffy song. Then the actors preformed.

Lastly the Duffy group held a question and answer session.

I think the Duffy performance

experiment

For inquiry we did a experiment .

Experiments are used to find out information and test things.

First we had prepare the material that were stone, sand, nappies and cotton rugs. Our group did sand.

Next we had to pour 100 millilitres in a beaker with water. After we had to dip 5 drops of food coloring into the water and mix it.

After we had to measure 50g of sand using a scale. We then pour material in to a tote tray ready to put the water on it. After pouring the water we waited for it to be absorbed. We put the water not absorbed in a measuring cup to see how much water that was absorbed and not absorbed.

I enjoy doing this experiments.

Body parts Maori

LI:learning about body parts in Maori.

This week for Maori we learned about body parts.

We matched the Maori words next to the English words. When we found the right word for the body part we had to highlight the ones we knew.

I enjoy learning new things in Maori.

Division

 LI:To share objects evenly.

Division is to share objects evenly to some groups. For example 12 divided by 4 equals 3. The original amount of objects that available had is 12. Then we gave 1 bean one at a time to four groups. The group size was 3.

Friday 18 September 2020

writting

I made my own story of the gruffalo.

I had to change were they live, change the animal and the the gruffalo favorite food.

I had to do 3 parts of the story.

I change the mouse into the hamster and the owl tree top house to a cave.

Thursday 17 September 2020

Making connection

LI-To identify and describe connections.

Text to self is when something is linking to something your done. For example : In the story the Gruffalo the mouse was scared looking at the gruffalo. My connection is I am scared getting feedback on my work from the teachers.

Text to text is connecting a book to the text. For example In the story of The Gruffalo, the mouse went on a  journey to find the nut and had to overcome many challenges. My connection is In the Story of Rahi and the Patupaiarehe Rahi went on a journey to find his  wife and had to overcome many challenge..

Text to word is connecting a book to the word. For example In the story the Gruffalo the squirrel tried to find food for her kids. My connection is parents in the word get food for their kids to eat.

Friday 11 September 2020

multiplication

LI: to learn the times tables.
LI: to identify and solve multiplication word problems.

Multiplication is a faster way to count lot of the same number. For example  7 + 7 +7 + 7 + 7 +7 6 times = 42. In multiplication it would be 6 x 7=42. An other example would be 9+9+9+9+9. In multiplication it is 5 x 9 = 45 because it is adding 9 five times.

These slide show our 9 times table and 7 times table.

Character Trait

In reading I learnt about fact and opinion. Doing this activity I learnt how to infer.

First I wrote about facts and opinion about the character in the story the Gruffalo.

Next I wrote some facts and opinions about each character.

Finally I did a character trait about each character personality.

I now understand to get an opinion I have to use clues and key words.

LI:To infer.
